Shape Night Run 2009

>> Sunday, July 26, 2009

Went for the Shape Nite Run yesterday. Completed the run in 1 hr 09 mins.
No position, no medal again ... boo hoo hoo Smileys

Anyway, there were loads of freebies at the run. I collected like at aleast a dozen cans of Revive isotonic drink, the same numbers of energy bars and a few bottles of mineral water. I was lucky as there was no crowd yet when I reached back.

Why Malaysians don't grow up? Whenever there are freebies, they rush like there's no tomorrow! Come on ... why can't they be civic-minded ... QUEUE UP! At school, we are taught to queue up and wait for our turn. At the run, people old enough to be my parents, were pushing and shoving just to get the freebies! I believed the organisers and sponsors had prepared enough for everyone until some of these 'kiasu' people actually carted away the drinks by the carton!

Which jungle did these people emerge from la?!!! Sick Smiley

My First Fender-Bender!

>> Friday, July 24, 2009

Today's the last day of my first semester in college. It's break time! Frankly, I don't know whether to be elated or to be bored. 3 weeks! Where to go? What to do? Smileys My friends' semester breaks don't coincide with mine and Kiat Sui's still at National Service. BORRINGGGGGG ...

Well, just had my lunch and was negotiating a roundabout to head home towards 12 o'clock. Noticed this old Honda Civic slightly ahead on my left heading in the same direction. SUDDENLY!!! Suddenly, she sped up and try to cut right across in front of me to get to the right, giving me a little honk. She has decided to go 3 o'clock from my left at the last minute. BRRRAAAKE!!! BANG!

I got down and the first thing I checked ... MY CAR! Phewww!!! No damage, just a slight rubber mark on the bumper. Then I turned to see the other driver ... 'CHAR BOR' driver and she's hopping mad, yelling at me Smileys... her driver-side door cannot open la, why I never see her la, why I never put on my signal to go left la ... what the heck! "Hey! You're at fault lady and you're yelling at me?!" 'CHAR BOR' driver, that's why ... scream first talk later! No solution one, no proposal one, just bitching away!

Then she called someone over her handphone, I presumed her husband. I called my Mom! HELLLPPPPPP!!! Mom agreed she's at fault. So, if she talk too much, she advised to just head straight to the police station and make a police report! Luckily, Uncle Steven passed by and help me out. Just at that moment, her husband arrived. She calmed down ... FINALLY. She must be trying to bully me ... seeing that I'm still a young probationary driver. Thank goodness, her husband is not like her! He was cool as cucumber ... a gentleman.

We exchanged our details and Uncle Steven also gave his contact, just in case. Mom and Dad's supposed to contact them later to settle the whole matter.

Later in the evening, Dad called the couple twice but no one answer nor did they returned the calls. Maybe could it be that they have realised her mistake and did not want to pursue the matter further?

Hmmmmmm ... my first fender-bender. Surprisingly, Mom and Dad did not yelled their top off at me. Smileys A little lecture, that's all.

A Peek In My Treasure Chest!

Is running in my blood? Well, I would love to think I've got some although it may just be half off the old block.

Hat's off to Dad! He had tried, pushing me into running since my primary days. I believe I can be proud of myself of the achievements made tho' much more could have been done. I know! I admit I'm some what lazy :-$

Anyhow, take a peek at my treasure chest of medals. May not be as many as Dad's but I do have some to prove that I do have some nuance of that running blood.

Is Running In My Blood???

>> Wednesday, July 22, 2009

Tonight was the Kota Kemuning Pacers' regular night run by the lake. Nowadays, the turnout seem pretty good. Guess more people are aware of our presence thru the word of mouth. I used to be the only teenager when they started. Now we have a group of about 10 teenagers!

As usual, after the night run, some of us will head to the 'mamak shop' for our late dinner cum supper. Uncle Steven and family, Uncle Fun, May Chieh Chieh and my family. This time Auntie Grace and family had gone for dinner earlier. Over dinner, we bumped into another Uncle Steven. This one's Uncle Steven Kwan, a former Malaysian National squash player. He chatted quite a fair bit with us about his own 2 kids making to the National Junior Squash Team, also Nicole David and Ong Beng Hee who have made their millions in squash. It's a huge commitment and risk.

Parents will be parents! "Our kids must be obedient and have the interest before it can happen. Look at our kids!" sighhh ... :-<

I must admit I'm not the most obedient kid but I tried and I'm still trying, OK? Somehow, I guess my tries are just not good enough. Not in my Dad's eye though. Like I once complained to Mom before "Once wrong forever wrong, no more chances!" Yeah I lacked determination but c'mon! I'm only 18! Still immature and still impressionable! I'm a late bloomer!

Anyway, must we kids share our parents' passion or interest in order to be considered obedient kids? Can we not find our own interest or passion? Yeah, Dad's so passionate about running coz he's good at it. I run but I'm not good. Does that make me less of an obedient kid? Less determine but no less of an obedient child who do not mind allocating his time for their regular Wednesday night runs. I am a good swimmer but Dad's less of a swimmer, what does this make him then? :-?

Food for thought, "Is running in my blood?" Scientifically thinking, I'm made up of two halfs of 2 separate individuals, one that's athletic and the other that's brainy! Do I have sufficient athletic genes in me to reach Dad's standard?

No Medal For Siemens Run 2009

>> Sunday, July 19, 2009

Another week another run.

Just finished the Siemens Run today. 10km in the Men's Open Category at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur. I managed to finish in 1 hour 3 mins. Not much improvement. No position to show and NO MEDAL again!

Anyway, I'm cool about it. Just need to work out more to lose some of the extra weight off my bod.

In time ... in time, those medals won't be that elusive anymore.

Whew! I Ran 21km & Went On A Food Adventure ...

>> Tuesday, July 7, 2009

As planned, a whole gang of us went to Ipoh last Saturday, immediately after the Larian Hari AntiDadah at Putrajaya. I really don't know what's with my Dad and Uncle Steven ... not to mention Auntie Cheryl! They are all ADDICTED to running!

Anyway, we left home at about 11.30am. Uncle Steven and family were in their Hyundai sportster while Mike joined us in our GT. Surprisingly, I wasn't that tired, even after having to wake up at 5 in the morning and ran the 7.7km earlier. According to Dad's plan, we dropped by at Slim River for our lunch. We always does that whenever we head north for a holiday, ever since I was a small toddler. The 'Tapah Fish' and 'River Pat Su Koong' (catfish), caught fresh from their river there are supposedly their speciality. My Mom was the one who introduced this place to us, way back when she was still attached to a company with its factory at nearby Behrang Station.

After lunch, we continued on our way to Ipoh and reached our homestay accommodation on the dot at 3pm. It was somewhere in Bercham. All of us wasn't sure what to expect of this homestay but alas, it turned out great. It was just a double-storey terrace house with nothing to shout about on the exterior. But the interior was clean and comfortable. It was like we're at home. I would definitely recommend to others. Mike and me bunked together in a room downstairs as we single men were barred from going upstairs ... the women's rules!

Leaving the women behind, we men folk headed to Majlis Bandaran Ipoh to collect our bibs and T'shirt for the Ipoh Internation Run next morning. It was a wild goose-chase! The organiser change the venue. Anyway, they had a Kembara ready to lead all the misled people like us to Stadium Perak, the actual venue. Thank God they had a backup plan!

It was a big mess when we reached the stadium to collect our bibs. It was so slow moving waiting to pay, get our receipts and bibs.:-w We ended up waiting there for more than an hour. The waiting just left us so high and dry that we had to popped in at the 'mamak' shop to 'yum cha'!

Going back to our 'hotel' was another adventure. By the time we actually reached our 'hotel', we've tried all the roads and backlanes. None of us were familiar with Ipoh, we lost our way. L-)

Later, we met up with Uncle Lim and his family for the famous 'Ipoh Ga Choy Kai' for dinner. For supper, we went looking for 'durians' but the seller was just trying to rip us off. 3 medium-sized ones (about 5kgs each) for RM66!!! All of us went to bed dreaming of 'DURIANS' ... 8->

Next morning, we all woke up to a huge surprise ... it was raining heavily. How to run in the race? Run in the rain? Well, it's not that I've not done that before but it'll be a MESS! By the way, I've change my run from 10km to 21km at the last minute. After an agonising delay of half-an-hour, I started and completed my run in 2 hrs 10 mins with a placing at 148th. #:-S

Immediately after the run, we all went for the famous Ipoh Dim Sum at Foh San. It was jam-packed and we had to stand by a table for more than 30 minutes just to get a place. We had to split the gang too. The Dim Sum was delicious! BEST!! CHEAP!!! After we checked out from our 'hotel', again we went hunting for stuffs to eat ... 'taufu fah', 'nam heong white coffee' and the illusive 'durians'. Never got to taste the 'taufu fah' coz finished! Coffee ... great with 'char koay teow', 'asam laksa', 'chee cheong fun' and 'char siew pau' ... oooooo ... slurrrpppppp

Left Ipoh for home at about 5 pm. We turned off the North-South Highway at Sungkai ... again on a 'durian' hunt! Incidentally, we spotted a hot spring and decided to check it out. With the thought of soaking our feet in hot water, we were ever willing to drive 9km off the trunk road with oil palm estate and 'kampung' houses dotting the road sides. Just as we were nearing the hot spring ...

'DURIANS'!!! The illusive 'DURIANS'! Imagine eating right under the 'DURIAN' trees!! I think the happiest person then was Auntie Cheryl. Finally, the hunt's over. =P~

Because of the King of Fruits, we never really got the chance to test the hot spring. Too late with only an hour before closing time ... not worth it with an entrance fee of RM10. So with 'durian' considered as dinner, we all headed back home ... not forgetting to mention 'ta pow durians' too.

By the time we reached home, we were all so tired that we hit the sack real early. I-) Feel free to check out the pictures of our adventure at Kota Kemuning Pacers' blog.

Oops! Me & My Big Mouth ...

>> Thursday, July 2, 2009

As usual, followed my Mom & Dad for their weekly Wednesday Nite Run with the Kota Kemuning Pacers. Was quite on form ... did 4.5 laps round the lake and was thinking of adding 1 or 2 more laps but I twisted one of my ankle having mistakenly step into a pothole. Luckily the pain subsided after awhile and NO DAMAGE. I'm signed up to run this Saturday morning at the Larian Hari AntiDadah in Putrajaya (7.7km run) and the next morning, another 7km run at the Ipoh International Run.

Yeah, you heard right! Going all the way to Ipoh for a run ... not my idea, OK? I'm just the 'teng wah' gem of a son! O:-)

Anyway, while resting after the nite run, as usual the chatter-boxes will come out to play. The adults coined it as 'communal effort' or 'social networking' ... aiyah, what the heck ... it's just chit-chats la ... no need use so bombastic terms.

While I was joking with Auntie Cheryl, I kinda let the cat of the bag ... SHOOT ME! Me and my big mouth! I should pour Auntie Cheryl with praises ... how she managed to subtlely extract such info from me? Mom also couldn't do it and not that she'd never tried before.

:-$ How could I let it slipped into that kind of conversation? Today, over dinner, my Mom finally popped the question ... "Ah? You got girlfriend already meh? How come I don't know one?" :-O

Yeah yeah ... she's a girl and we're friends, so technically she's my girlfriend la! Nothing serious, just friends only. So Mom, don't worry so much la. I've got a long way more to go before I can even afford to take care of another person.

For the time being, I think I need all the 'tender loving care' first! >:D<

Now I Can Blast In My Car ... My New Car Stereo!

>> Monday, June 29, 2009

With my new stereo I just installed on Monday, I can now blast away in my car. Cool sound ... Pioneer model DEH-3o50UB. I really enjoyed the much clearer and sharper sound. Its price is quite worth it which costs me about RM400 only. It has a MP3/Wma CD player plus a USB jack where i can play songs from my thumb drive. Its quite powerful as its output MOSFET is 50W x 4 and also able to amplify sub woofers for serious street blasters just like Kiat Sui's brother's. Additionally, it has a remote control for the back seat passengers to control the CD player. I'm so satisfied with my purchase. :)

I bought it from the audio and accessories shop which is located in Taman Sentosa, about 15 minutes drive from Kota Kemuning along the Sri Muda 'Kampung Road'. It ain't that far but because of the traffic jam due to many traffic lights ... arghhhhhh!!! This particular shop was recommended by Kiat Sui's elder brother who knows the shopowner. One day, he brought me to the shop for a little window shopping. When we hopped in to the shop, there were many choices of CD players and speakers from many ranges and brands. From car audio to car accessories. After weeks of survey as advised by Dad, i finally purchased the CD player this shop recommended. It took me a month to save up all my pocket money, partly by chrinching my stomach too, YES!!! i finally purchased my very own car stereo! :D

Before purchasing the CD player, I did my homework searching the Internet forums for the best price. In the end, it seemed that my friend's shop is still the cheapest. (O.o). Wow!! They're exceptionally cheaper than any other shops I've passed by when I return home from college. In a nutshell, I now know where I can find audio accessories that are not too over-rated. xD Oh!! I almost forgot, I managed to trade in the old cassette player for a pair of Sony Explode tweeters to sharpen the sound. The tweeters cost bout RM 100 plus and they're willing to accept that piece of **** for the tweeters. I think they're really good when it comes to serving friends.

LOL! =))

I Finally Have My Own Bank Account!

Last Monday morning, the same day before i bought the car audio, I brought out my I/C and I drove to the nearest Maybank to open up a bank account. Once i reached the bank, I noticed that i forgot to bring the form that I filled up which i got when i enquire about the bank account a couple of weeks back. So, I ended up have to get a new form and fill up again and face the small little boxes again. =_= After filling up the frustrating form which I often almost filled up with wrong particulars, I then took form to the counter to be verified. ~X(

In order to open a bank account, I must have at least RM250 cash and I must show them my I/C to confirm that I'm 18 years old and above. After making a new ATM card, I'm needed to deposit the RM250 cash into my new bank account.

Depositing the bank was the most humiliating thing #-o, I do not know how to place the cash notes into the cash deposit machine. I keep trying my best to know how to stuff the notes into the machine and finally a beautiful office uniformed young girl thought me how to use the machine. I was pleased by her kindness and also...HER BEAUTY!! but she was too old for me lah!!! I hope my girl-friend wont read this. Hehe...

After depositing the cash into my account, I am able to withdraw it out and then I headed to nearest food court for a hearty breakfast. Tough task to open a bank account la!!! T'was so much more easier when Dad did it for me. :

Had I Speak Too Soon???

Shit! It drizzled and it rained this morning as we drove down to Dataran Merdeka for the Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur International Marathon. I prayed hard that the rain will not be any heavier or better still, no rain in the city.

If it rained cats and dogs and anyone were to have read my post yesterday ... hahaha!!! I think I better start my full marathon sprint back home ... else everyone will be going for my neck.

We reached Dataran Merdeka and it rained. Quite heavy that we had to seek shelter but luckily it did not last very long. The full marathon was flagged off as scheduled and so was the half-marathon and then the 10km run. The weather after that was perfect! No sun till late morning ... so it was not hot at all, perfect for running.

Whew!!! #:-S

Standard Chartered KL International Marathon

>> Saturday, June 27, 2009

Hey! Guess what?! I'll be one of those cameramen at the Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur International Marathon tomorrow.

My Mom has coolly assigned part of that task to me. The fact that I won't be running at the event tomorrow, she has also coolly exempt me from Sunday school just to take photos. Any other time that I wanted to skip Sunday school, I'll definitely hear a blast to my ear ... oh my ear ...

Parents ... they decide what you can and cannot do, it's all justified on their terms ... when do I get to decide what I want to or don't want to do? Hmmmmmm ... wise question huh?

How come I'm not running tomorrow? Dad was not sure just in case I ended up in NS (National Service). By the time it was confirmed that I had not been selected for NS, it was too late. Registration closed. See what I mean ... parents' decision ... if it was up to me, I'd sign-up first ... worst scenario if I can't make it to the half-marathon, only $36 burnt!

No point cryng over spilled milk ... tomorrow I'll be a good boy and take as many photos as I possibly can. Maybe I'll take some pretty girls' pics too ... won't be so boring then. Got to wait at least 3 hours under the morning sun to spot Dad, Uncle Steven and Uncle Riq at the 30km mark. Oh God! Tomorrow please make it a cloudy day but NO RAIN PLEASE!!! Else this post must never ever be accessible to Dad and his running mates! :-S

I was bored like hell ...

>> Monday, June 15, 2009

I really appreciate whatever my parents do for me ... really I do.
Don't get me wrong. I may seem like that rebellious monster but deep down I do listen to them. I know it's bad but it's just my typical "KIASU" attitude. Never admit I'm wrong. I'll only follow subtlely later when I'm cool about it.

I know Mom meant well asking me to join them for the night out at Hello Bali ... just at the nearby Sunway Pyramid. I've got nothing to do at home anyway. Kiat Sui's getting ready for NS (he volunteered for the National Service stint). My other friends are back to college at their respective campuses outstation. That leaves me kinda solo for the weekend.

It all started quite well actually when we left the house at 10.45 pm. While on the way, Mom had suggested that I open my own savings account at Maybank on Monday. I'm supposed to used my own money at hand to open the account and I was more than agreeable to do it! Not that I mind I still do not have access to my savings held in-trust by Dad. Frankly, I wander how much I have in there. Ahhhhhh ... my own ATM card (automated teller card) ... FINALLY!

I do not know how the conversation drifted to the protein powder I'd ordered for my weight training but it just got so heated up that by the time we reach Sunway Pyramid, they were not talking to me already. I know they're not agreeable that I spent $300 over that protein powder but I've already ordered from my friend. I don't feel nice to have to cancel the order. They do have their points, it's just way too expensive for a beginner like me. Moreover, I was saving up for a car audio system in the first place (Mom, thanks for the reminder).

Well, we all met at the entrance to the club. I had lost all my mood and I can see my Mom wasn't too happy with me either. Dad had decided to be oblivious to all that's me. Never mind that, I told myself I'll just sit quietly in my corner and survey all the girls around. Not many 'leng loi' that night. There were more Indians and Africans girls than Chinese. Not so tasty to me ...

When we first arrived, there was no crowd at all. Plenty of empty tables tho' many were reserved. The party only got going past midnight. The crowd came and went, no letting up. My Mom and Dad were even squeezed out of their places at one point. By the time we left, the crowd was still hanging in there.

Mom was enjoying herself dancing the night away. Dad too enjoying his Black Label. Me? I was BORED LIKE HELL! What was I doing there?!!!

Ok, ok ... I know it totally slipped my mind to inform you, Mom.

You're right again as usual ... I'm irresponsible ... so thoughtless ... fine, I accept. I just don't know why it never crossed my mind to inform you and Dad that I've gotten myself another mobile line. Unfortunately, my current handphone is not a dual sim card one. So I had to remove either one when I'm using the other. As I've explained, one is for chatting and the other for SMS. It may seem ridiculous to you but I'm just trying to be as efficient as I can with my expenses. It's not that you guys are giving me full support for my mobile usage.

Sorry Mom, Dad. I know your silence over all it does not mean it's a waiver to any of the pre-requisites towards adulthood!

I can't be reached ...

What the heck! My Mom's SMS from yesterday night only arrived this morning!!
No wonder she ticked me off several times for not answering her messages!!!

She's also been complaining endlessly for the past one week on the difficulty to get in touch with me. It's always the same voice recording, "The number you have dialled cannot be reach at the moment. Please try again later."

Don't blame me, it's not my fault! I don't understand why either. I don't have any problem receiving calls from friends ...

Need to check it out now with Digi. Better try to get this problem solved soonest, if I can. Or else, I'll never hear the end of it from Mom!

My Second Post ...

Looks like I took a very very long nap ...
It's been 6 days since my first post.

Writing is not exactly in my list of talents, much less as a habit. My Mom has been encouraging me to write and write and write, eversince I was in Primary 6. I did make an effort to jot all my activities in my Ms-Outlook journal once. Somehow, that died down ... it was such a chore!

I don't know how Mom does it. She always has something to write about. Long-winded too. Where do I begin? Share about my college life which is still in infancy or share my weight training progress or about girls, if only I have a steady girlfriend to brag about ... totally no experience down that road ... so forget it!

Guess I need to nap some more ....
Not easy man ... trying to find the right thoughts to put into words ...
See if I can continue tomorrow or perhaps after a game or two of Maple.
Hopefully not after 6 days again scuba hand signals
